Give Respect To Those Who Have Rule Over Us
Compiled By Brother L. Harrell

1 Peter 2:18 (Weymouth New Testament)  Household servants, be submissive to your masters, and show them the utmost respect--not only if they are kind and thoughtful, but also if they are unreasonable.

Romans 13:1-2 (Weymouth New Testament)  Let every individual be obedient to those who rule over him; for no one is a ruler except by God's permission, and our present rulers have had their rank and power assigned to them by Him.  Therefore the man who rebels against his ruler is resisting God's will; and those who thus resist will bring punishment upon themselves.

Colossians 3:22   Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God;

We are commanded to obey those who have rule over us.  This obedience includes speaking evil of those in leadership.  (President, Governor, Pastor, boss at the work place, etc.).  Additionally, using unlicensed / illegal software, pirating / exchanging unauthorized MP3s, speeding in our vehicles, running red lights, driving with out insurance and with expired registration is a violation of this godly instruction.

If I keep the commandments, that is good (if I truly am).  But, if I don’t keep the peace with my brother (which the laws of the land are for), I have not kept the spirit of the commandments, but rather by the letter.

I can observe the Sabbath in love and respect for the Lord, but that is vanity if I then turn around and dishonor my brother.

1 John 4:20   If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?

Acts 23:5   Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

James 3:8-10   But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.  Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.  Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.

Luke 12:1b   he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

Hypocrisy:  To profess to have principles, beliefs, etc., that one does not really possess.

Ignorantly, some dogmatically declare that our nation’s “commander in chief” is not ordained of God (See Romans 13:1) and worthy of his due respect as such.  Some need to seek the Lord for understanding and then read how the Lord fought for King Ahab (See 1st Kings, Chapter 20), and also through Elijah and Elisha anointed King Jehu as King of Israel (See 1st Kings 19:16, 2nd Kings 9:1-13 & 2nd Kings 10:28-33).

These kings without a doubt would have their ordination questioned by modern-day Pharisees.  As a result of the cynical judgment by the modern-day “church”, the “church” would be opposing the will of the Lord, as many do even today.  (See Acts 9:14)
